Welcome to Stage Left Events

Hi all – I’m Ange! Welcome to Stage Left Events. I’m an event manager from Australia who is currently living in France. I’m also a big fan of the internet and have done a degree studying how people use the internet. My plan for this blog is to feature events I love from around the world, plus give advice on technology and tricks which will help you to run successful events. Good luck!

PukkelPop – Belgium August 19-21 2010

Every year in August, Belgium puts on an awesome music festival – Pukkelpop. If you visit Belgium in late August, you’ll find this massive open-air event hiding in Kiewit, near Hasselt. Since it began in 1985, Pukkelpop has been home to an alternative music scene, beginning with just seven relatively unknown bands and building up to the huge names it attracts today. The 2010 line-up includes The Kooks, We Are Scientists, Iron Maiden, Goldfrapp, Mint, Groove Armada, Placebo, Prodigy, Eels, Gogol Bordello, Kate Nash and the Flaming Lips. Sadly, this has become quite a popular festival: this year’s tickets sold out five weeks before the gates are due to open. But, keep an eye out for next year and get your tickets before July!

News and stuff about artists in the lineup is collected for fans of the festival in the Pukkelpop Facebook Page and @Pukkelpop Twitter. Those of us who can’t get tickets can listen to the sounds of this year’s Pukkelpop line-up on Last.fm.

Using the web to plan events

Freelance/entrepreneur event managers worldwide are beginning to use the internet to manage events. You might be considering doing the same, but are perhaps still wondering what are the best tools for the job. Well, here’s a few ideas for you.

I’ve carefully chosen my favourite ticketing/invitation managers and created a list of the best web apps for event managers. Plus, I’ve collated a list of the best cloud apps for freelancers, detailing to-do lists and other office management tools available free online.

Hopefully, this is of some use to you!
